Blog | Shopit now includes routing software

3rd December 2014

The eCommerce platform Shopit now includes delivery route handling features.

One of our key accounts handles their own nationwide deliveries and naturally wants to utilise the power of Shopit out on the road. Given the coding flexibility that Shopit offers, we have been hard at work creating in-built routing software, email and SMS notifications, and integrating this data into handheld Android devices. Although we can’t give too much information away, the process is as follows:

Editing and allocating the orders

The client can see 30 orders which all need allocating across 5 different routes – some to the North, some to the South etc. He also needs to put the deliveries in order – in this case by expected time slot – which is then communicated to the client before shipment. We’ve made it really easy to drag and drop the deliveries into a different order sequence and also into a different route altogether.

Publishing the deliveries to the driver

Each route has a designated driver who only wants to know about his own deliveries, so in publishing each route the driver can open up his Android phone and see the whole route and each delivery. He can click into the order and see address and item information as well as read and add any notes along the way.driver delivery app

Syncing with the office

As the driver makes his deliveries, he can add his own notes (left with neighbour; customer rejected the item) and signatures (using integrated signature capture software) via the Android device along the way, the office can instantly see his progression. Armed with information they can deal with any consequent customer service telephone calls, as well as updating consequent deliveries if he is running late due to traffic. When combined with GPS technology, the office can see where his van is and even help him replan his route if necessary.

Providing solutions that fit with businesses

We are really proud of this work to develop Shopit to act as route planning software, signature capture and more – its yet another example of how we use our talents to solve business problems. Our ecommerce platform is not a ‘one size fits all’ or ‘find your own module’ platform that businesses would have to adapt themselves to. Shopit is a living, breathing piece of technology that evolves as your business does.
